Ossett Brewery Refreshes Its Core Brand for a New Era
We’ve been crafting exceptional beers since 1998 - born from northern roots and shaped by brewing know-how. No faff, no fuss - just great beer, brewed to be shared, savoured, and enjoyed.
Now, we’re stepping into a new chapter - refreshing the Ossett brand to reflect who we are today, and where we’re headed tomorrow.
Built on Cask Roots, Driven by Craft Tradition
Our heart still belongs to cask. But we’re also embracing the momentum that’s been building over the years - new drinkers, new formats, and a fresh take on who we are. This isn’t a rebrand for the sake of it. It’s a clear, confident step forward: modernising our identity while staying true to our values and the people who’ve supported us from the start.
You’ll see it in our updated look, rolling out across the core range from this May. Inspired by Yorkshire’s landscapes and folklore, our refreshed design brings bold colour, clean lines and a contemporary edge to our classics - without compromising what’s inside the glass.
Ossett Blonde: A Name That Comes Home
From the week of 12th May, Yorkshire Blonde becomes Ossett Blonde. It’s the same easy-drinking pale you know and love, proudly flying the flag for the place where it all began. This name change reflects our pride in our hometown - and the confidence to take that name further afield.
Welcoming Barghest to the Family
Also joining our core line-up is Barghest, a 4.3% stout launching the week of 12th May. Named after the legendary beast said to haunt the Yorkshire moors, it’s a smooth, dark pour with bold flavours of coffee, chocolate and vanilla. A nod to a local legend. A beer brewed to be savoured.
Fine-Tuning for Flavour and Balance
As part of this refresh, we’re making slight adjustments to two of our core beers to improve balance and enhance sessionability across the range:
- Excelsius will drop from 5.2% to 5.0% ABV
- Butterley will drop from 3.8% to 3.4% ABV
These changes reflect wider trends in drinking habits, with a move towards lighter, more sessionable beers. The result? Both brews stay easy-drinking and full of flavour, while still delivering the bold character that our drinkers know and love.
A New Look, a Broader Reach
This refresh signals more than a design change. It’s part of our wider ambition to evolve from a beloved local brewery to a nationally recognised name in beer. You’ll start seeing our core range in different formats soon, opening up new opportunities to enjoy Ossett wherever you are.
We may have started out in the back of a pub - but over the last two decades, we’ve become one of the UK’s most respected independent breweries. From our cask roots to our growing craft tradition, every move we make is about pushing forward while honouring where we’ve come from.
The Story Continues
This isn’t a goodbye to the Ossett you know. It’s an evolution of everything that’s brought us here. From our classic core beers to our sub-brands - Rat Brewery, Riverhead, and now the bold new Rat craft range - we’re continuing to brew with character, purpose and pride.
There’s never been a better time to rediscover Ossett.
