OUR ORIGIN STORY BEGINS
The Rat & Ratchet, Huddersfield, 15 years ago.
White Rat’s origin story begins in the basement of The Rat & Ratchet, back in 2011. After a test brew (Lab Rat), White Rat - a 4% hoppy pale - emerged designed specifically to match the drinking preferences of the regulars upstairs.
IT's HOPPY WITH A BITE
Razor-sharp. Unapologetically bitter. Spiky, lip-puckering and moreish. White Rat’s intense and secret blend of hops meant it quickly emerged as leader of the pack. Refusing to follow rules, it rewrites them.
DEMAND INTENSIFIES
After bursting onto the scene as one of the hoppiest cask beers available, this maverick proved itself ahead of the curve, and in less than a year demand intensified to the extent that the Rat Brewery could barely keep pace with orders…
BORN FROM THE SHADOWS, CRAFTED FOR THE BOLD
In 2013, a test brew took place at Ossett Brewery. Extensive taste tests ensured the hoppy, bold flavour still stood up. Brews continued at both sites until 2020, when White Rat was cemented as part of the Ossett Core range.
WHITE RAT TAKES OVER
Today, White Rat stands confidently on its own four feet, and has spawned a pack of Rats emerging from the Ossett brewery nest - each one inspired by the instinct of the rat - experimental, unafraid and endlessly creative.
